Operations Manager – Assumption Cemetery


The Archdiocese of Winnipeg is looking for an Operations Manager for Assumption Cemetery.  The Operation Manager is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of Assumption Cemetery and St. Mary’s Cemetery.The Operations Manager is responsible for working with the Chief Financial Officer/Superintendent of Cemeteries on strategic planning, enhancing customer care, sales, communications and promotions. Administrative duties such as employee oversight and record management are also the responsibility of the Operations Manager. 


Key Accountabilities:

  • Planning for new services to be offered, memorials to be built, and space for new burial plots, crypts and niches. 
  • Responsible for enhancing the customer care offered by the cemetery. 
  • Planning for the long-term internment, infrastructure and amenity needs of the cemetery.
  • Research new products to offer that will enhance the customer care and cemetery property. 
  • Research the upcoming trends in Funeral services regarding cremation, burials, memorials and the cemetery grounds. 
  • Establishing communication and promotional tools to show what the cemetery offers to past and future families.
  • Develop and maintain a website for the cemetery in conjunction with the Communications Director.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records regarding maps, reports and inventory. 
  • Direct and advice the Family Counsellors on procedures and ensuring those are followed. 
  • Provide information to families and sell items when Family Counsellors are not available. 
  • General office duties such as filing, correspondence, answer telephones and ordering of office supplies. 



  • Experience in the bereavement/funeral industry and sales are required.
  • Experience in strategic planning would be considered an asset. 
  • Excellent communication skills along with a proven track record in building rapport and maintaining relationships are required.
  • Knowledge of Catholic burial rights and traditions would be considered an asset. 
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Able to work collaboratively with the Archdiocesan office, clergy, staff and the public. 
  • Attention to detail is important. 
  • Able to work in an isolated setting.  
  • Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, work independently and multi-task.
  • Personal qualities of integrity and credibility.
